Buying a salon E-mail

My nephew is about to finish his hairdressing apprenticeship at college and I was thinking of backing him into his own small salon. He is very good and such a nice boy that I am sue he will do very well but, could you tell me if I am being a little hasty.

Are you being hasty? Just a bit. I know that we all want to do our best to help our family to get on but there are lots of things at college that he did not learn about running a business. why not give him a chance to find a job and prove himself first. If you are going to back him at some stage, get advice from a business guidance officer who will look at the situation without the emotional involvement.

Yes you are !!
Hi My Name is Ian and I own a 3 salons and a online store and I would say that it is fantastic you want help your nephew out with buying him a salon but its not that simple i am afraid running a successful salon takes many hours of hard work i am talking 12hr days 6 days a week and paper work on a Sunday !!.
I think your nephew would benefit from 2 or 3 years experience in the industry learning how salons are run , with the goal that when he reaches the desired level of expertise from his current job you can buy him a salon. Also it will give the market time to recover and will leave him opening a new salon in a strong market. That my advice anyway, Read a book called the E myth that will help a lot , plot just because you are a good technician(hairdresser) doesn’t mean you can run a business.

Save your money invest it in an ISA and you will have more to spend in 3 years time,

All the best
